‘Sister Wives’ Star Meri Brown Breaks Silence On Transgender Daughter Leon Brown
Sister Wives star Meri Brown recently provided a rare update on her daughter-turned-man, Leon Brown.
Leon Brown, who came out as transgender in June 2022 and uses they/them pronouns, has chosen to maintain a low public profile. Meri, 53, shared with PEOPLE, “They, by their choice, have made a decision to not be super public. So I don’t talk about them so much.” She added that Leon is doing well and that they communicate frequently.
Leon, 29, is Meri’s only child with her ex-husband, Kody Brown. In June 2022, Leon publicly announced their transgender identity, stating,
“My name is Leo or Leon, and my pronouns are they/them. Please only refer to me in that way.” Meri expressed her support at the time by sharing Leon’s announcement on her Instagram Story, captioning it, “You are my sunshine.”
In addition to their personal journey, Leon has been in a long-term relationship with partner Audrey Kriss. The couple got engaged in January 2019 during the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., after dating for two years. They reportedly married in a private ceremony at a Colorado courthouse on October 29, 2022.
Fans of “Sister Wives” have noted Leon’s absence from recent episodes, especially amid ongoing family dynamics involving Kody and his remaining wife, Robyn Brown. Meri acknowledged the complexity of these relationships, comparing them to the differing perspectives in the story “Wicked.” She stated, “There’s a lot to dissect there, and I think that it’s very fair for everybody that they have their own feelings and perspectives about … .”
Despite stepping away from the public eye, Leon occasionally shares updates on social media. Meri respects Leon’s decision to lead a more private life, emphasizing that whatever Leon chooses to share online is what people will know about them. She also mentioned that they maintain regular communication, reinforcing their strong mother-child relationship.
Meri has been vocal about her support for Leon, especially in the face of public scrutiny. In a previous interview, she addressed the polarized reactions to Leon’s transition, expressing her appreciation for supportive comments and her disdain for hateful ones. She emphasized that hate has no value and that she doesn’t appreciate the negativity directed towards her child.
Leon and Audrey’s relationship has been a significant aspect of their lives. Both have been open about their journeys, with Audrey coming out as transgender in 2021, followed by Leon in 2022. Their partnership has been marked by mutual support and understanding, culminating in their marriage in October 2022.
While Leon has chosen to step back from the limelight, their journey continues to inspire many. Meri’s unwavering support underscores the importance of acceptance and understanding within families, especially when navigating complex personal journeys. As “Sister Wives” continues to air, viewers respect Leon’s decision for privacy and appreciate the glimpses shared into their life.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
