India player Cheteshwar Pujara talked about the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing third Test against Australia. He said that the captain’s shoulder allowed the ball to come to him and claimed that the dip form was due to a change in batting position.
Rohit Sharma’s poor run of form continued in Test cricket as the batter bagged another low total in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The captain has sacrificed his opening position for KL Rahul and has been batting in the middle order in the series.
Pat Cummins sends Rohit Sharma packing for 10 runs
Rohit was yet again removed by Pat Cummins as the pacer troubled the batter throughout his stay. The Australia National Cricket Team skipper bowled a full delivery, which the India captain poked at. The ball caught the outside edge, which was safely pouched by the wicketkeeper Alex Carey behind the stumps.
Rohit ended his innings with 10 runs off 27 balls and also hit two boundaries in his innings. The batter overall in the series has smashed just 19 runs, which speaks a lot about his struggles with the bat in the two games that he has been part of.
He should have defended that ball and allowed the ball to come to him rather than going for that ball – Cheteshwar Pujara on Rohit Sharma
Cheteshwar Pujara, who is commenting during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, addressed Rohit Sharma’s dismissal during the ongoing game. He said that the captain should have defended the ball. He claimed that the batter not being in runs has added pressure on him. Speaking on Star Sports, he explained:
“It wasn’t a length where you can drive. We have seen that even a fuller-length ball is hard to drive. He kind of tried to punch that ball. He should have defended that ball and allowed the ball to come to him rather than going for that ball. And I think the tough part is he hasn’t been amongst runs, and that’s where the pressure is.”
Doesn’t help you when you’re opening innings and you suddenly start batting at number 6 – Cheteshwar Pujara on Rohit Sharma
Cheteshwar Pujara also believes that the change in batting position hasn’t done any good to Rohit Sharma. He said that the batter might be doubting himself when he has to wait for his batting, claiming that he wasn’t used to it. He added:
“He has been opening the innings, now he’s batting at number 6. That is for the team, but I still feel that when you are so much used to opening the innings and when you have to wait, then you put yourself in that doubt.
“I mean, it doesn’t help you when you’re opening innings and you suddenly start batting at number 6. So that you don’t get that momentum either,”
Rohit Sharma will now be having two more games to prove his worth with the bat. Apart from his batting, he also has come under scanner for his captaincy. It remains to be seen what will be his future in the longest format of the game.
