Even stars like Gigi Hadid have to deal with unwanted rodents in their homes, just like Us.
“My outdoor space in New York is getting a little update because we had a rat problem in New York,” the model, 29, said in an interview with Architectural Digest published on Monday, December 16. “And some of the original designs of the space didn’t help that problem.”
Hadid added that she’s “looking forward” to having the space fixed up so she’ll no longer have to deal with the critters. While the outdoor varmints are an annoyance, they appear to be the only pest Hadid is dealing with at the moment.
In her interview, Hadid shared that she splits her time between New York City and Pennsylvania. While Hadid spends time in both locations, she’s making sure both spaces reflect who she is as a person.
“The way I designed and decorated my homes or apartments at first and the evolution of my fashion style are similar,” she reflected. “When I first moved to New York, my style was very on trend all the time and the way I decorated my apartments was safe and quite simple. I had that want to express myself through tchotchkes and things, but I didn’t have the experience or means to be more creative.”
Once Hadid was able to purchase her space, she decided to take risks in her decor choices.
“Once I got to a place where I could buy my first apartment and have more of a creative handprint on it,” she recalled. “That was also the time in my [fashion] style where I was just like, ‘F it; I get to wake up every day and express myself and it’s not for the opinions of others.’ And I think that I’ve gotten there in expressing myself in my living spaces.”
Hadid shared that there are two rooms in her abode that are her favorite spots. One of them includes a special connection to her daughter, Khai, 4, whom she shares with ex Zayn Malik.
“I like for my kitchens to be my living rooms, so either that space,” Hadid said. “Khai and I have an art room that’s really special to us.”
The art room is meant for the pair to complete their crafting time, which includes painting, drawing and more.
“There’s one wall in there that’s the wall she’s allowed to paint on in the house,” she explained. “And we do all sorts [of projects] in there like clay and shrinky-dinks and obviously a lot of drawing and painting. It’s good for both of us. We love it.”
