WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO World Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 12 KOs) defeated former champion Tyson ‘Gypsy King’ Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision in their rematch on Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
In the first round, southpaw Usyk used an effective jab, landing more than Fury’s jab. In the second round, Usyk went to Fury’s body. Fury rocked Usyk with a left to the chin in the final fifteen seconds, taking the round. In the third round, Fury, switching back and forth to orthodox, did enough to take the round, bloodying the nose of Usyk.
In the fourth round, Usyk seemed to have a slight edge. In the fifth round final minute, Fury landed a right to the chin, with Usyk coming back with four punches of his own. In the sixth round, Fury was doing well until the final thirty seconds when Usyk took over in an even fight.
In the seventh round, it was close, with Usyk having some swelling under his left eye at the end. Usyk got the better of Fury in the eighth. In the ninth round, Usyk continued using his jab on Fury in a round-up for grabs. In the tenth round, Usyk outlanding Fury, who is trying to hold him.
In the eleventh round’s final half, Usyk was driving Fury backward. In the twelfth and final round, it went back and forth as Usyk seemed to do enough to win the round and the fight.
The scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112.
In the co-feature, WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight champ Moses Itauma (11-0, 9 KOs) stopped southpaw Demsey McKean (22-2, 14 KOs) at 1:57 of the first round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round, an overhand left from Itauma on the head halfway through the round dropped McKean for an 8-count from referee Bob Williams. Seconds later, an overhand left to the head and down again went McKean. He beat the count, but Ref Williams called a halt.
In a late replacement bout, Ishmael ‘The Black Panther’ Davis (13-2, 6 KOs) was stopped by Serhii ‘El Flaco’ Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) after six rounds of a scheduled 12 rounds in a WBC junior middleweight title eliminator.
In the first round, Davis switched back to southpaw and back, took the round, scoring a right to the head of Bohackhuk. In the second round’s final thirty seconds, a short left hook from Bohackhuk on the chin dropped Davis for an 8-count from Referee Hector Afu. Davis suffered a cut on the right eyebrow in the third round’s final seconds.
In the sixth round, Bohackhuk had Davis all but out. As he walked slowly to his corner, he stopped the fight.
Heavyweight Johnny ‘The Romford Bull’ Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) won a disputed 10-round split decision over David ‘White Rhino’ Allen (23-7-2, 18 KOs) over 10 rounds for the vacant WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title.
In the first two rounds, Fisher went to the body, taking the round. In the third round, Allen started landing with an overhand right to the chin. In the fifth round first minute, Allen dropped Fisher with an overhand right for an 8-count from Referee Bob Williams. At the end of the round, Fisher suffered a bloody nose.
In the sixth round, referee Williams continues to allow Allen to hit Fisher behind the head. In the seventh, the slugfest continued, with both landing on the chin of one another, with Allen having an edge. In the eighth’s final seconds, Allen rocked Fisher with a left hook to the chin.
In the ninth round, Allen outworks Fisher, trying to throw Fisher to the canvas and getting a second warning. Fisher fights like he needs a knockout in the tenth and final round. Allen seems to have an edge. At the bell, Allen fell to his knees, hoping he would get the win.
Scores were 95-94 Fisher, 96-93 Allen, 95-94 Fisher.
Isaac ‘Westgate Warrior’ Lowe (25-3-3, 8 KOs) lost to Lee ‘Lightning’ McGregor (15-1-1, 11 KOs) by a ten-round unanimous decision for the vacant WBC International featherweight title.
In the first several rounds, McGregor bullied Lowe. In the fourth round, Lowe lands a left hook against the ropes. McGregor’s long left hook was finding its mark in the fifth round.
In the tenth and final round, a clash of heads cost Lowe a cut over his right eyebrow. He lost his mouthpiece several times. McGregor also cut over his right eye on his forehead but looked like the winner.
Scores were 96-92, 97-91 and 97-91.
Former Olympian and current WBA International super bantamweight champion southpaw Peter ‘Blood’ McGrail (11-1, 6 KOs) won a disputed decision over WBA No. 13 ranked Rhys Edwards (16-1, 4 KOs) by a ten-round unanimous decision.
In the third round, McGrail suffered a cut around his right eye due to a clash of heads. At the end of the fourth, Edwards had his best moments.
In the sixth round, both had their moments. In the eighth, Edwards had his best round. In the ninth and tenth rounds, Edwards seems to have gotten the best of it.
The scores were 96-94, 96-94 and 96-95.
WBA No. 11 southpaw Daniel Lapin (11-0, 4 KOs) defeated Dylan Colin (14-1, 4 KOs) by a ten-round unanimous decision to capture the vacant IBF International and vacant WBA Continental light heavyweight titles.
In the first three rounds, the taller southpaw Lapin’s hand speed was too much for Colin, who is returning after a year.
In the sixth round, a right uppercut from Lapin seemed to drop Colin to his knees, but he was ruled a slip due to his feet getting tangled. In the eighth round, Lapin hurt Colin with a right hook to the body but didn’t follow up.
Scores 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91.
WBC International heavyweight champion Andril ‘Rampage’ Novytskyi (14-0, 10 KOs) beat Edgar Ramirez (10-2-1, 4 KOs) by a ten-round unanimous decision.
In the first round, Novytskyi outworked Ramirez, who came back to take the second and third rounds. In the fifth round, Novytskyi dominated.
In the eighth round, it was close, with Novytskyi dominating the ninth round, ending it with a sharp right to the body of an otherwise round of little action. In the tenth and final round, Novytskyi took yet another round.
The scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 98-92.
Lightweight Mohammed Alakel (2-0 ) defeated Joshua Ocampo (8-34-5, 6 KOs) by a six-round unanimous decision.
In the second round, Alakel landed a right to the jaw and down went Ocampo for an 8-count from Referee Kevin Parker. Third through the sixth rounds, Alakel outlanded Ocampo.
Scores were 60-53, 60-53 and 60-53.
