Fury Vs. Usyk II: John Fury Out Of Corner

Tyson Fury’s trainer, SugarHill Steward, Has revealed that John Fury will NOT be in his corner during Saturday night’s rematch against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

Papa Fury Out

DAZN reports that Papa Fury, John, won’t be in Tyson’s corner during the fight. Some people believe that there were too many voices in Fury’s corner during his clash against unified champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) earlier this year on May 18th, confusing with different voices barking instructions to the beleaguered ‘Gypsy King.’

Having John in the corner wasn’t why Fury lost that fight, but he’s obviously a convenient scapegoat for the fans to blame for why their hero came up short. Fury’s fans need someone to blame for their Viking coming up short against Usyk, because it would be too painful for them to admit that he just flat-out wasn’t good enough.

How the fight was going wouldn’t have made a difference if John Fury hadn’t been helping out. Sugarhill Steward had NO answers for Fury to deal with Usyk’s superior skills, movement, and athletic ability.

Steward looked like he’d lost his senses completely when things started going bad for the Gyspy King in round eight. Once Fury got his beak bloodied in round eight, SugarHill could not help him. Tyson was on his own once things started going bad for him, and there was zero SugarHill could do to help.

From what I saw, John was the only one who seemed to have helpful advice in the corner that night. If anything, Fury should have dumped his trainer SugarHill and the other helpers and just kept Papa for the rematch.

The things that SugarHill had taught Fury since joining up with him in 2019, such as the leaning and roughhouse tactics, were useless against Usyk. He neutralized that simple-minded approach right away, leaving Fury with nothing else to fall back on.
