Prithvi Shaw’s exclusion from Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 has not sat well with the batter and even raised many eyebrows, but his snub was not surprising given his recent struggles with the bat in the domestic competitions.
The Mumbai batter was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad just two months ago, and now his fate has been no different, as he is yet again shown the door for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The young opener, who’s been quiet amid all the chatter, finally broke his silence on his snub.

Reacting to his omission, Prithvi Shaw took to social media, bluntly sharing his List A stats in an Instagram story. He posted, “Tell me, God, what more do I have to see… If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough… but I will keep my faith in you, and hopefully people believe in me still… because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram.”

Now, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) reacted to the whole situation as his career seems to be in the dark. Behind the scenes, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the team management are not impressed with Prithvi Shaw’s fitness and discipline, and these issues are holding him back.
His performance in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 was lackluster, where Shaw failed to make an impact despite Mumbai clinching the title. In nine innings, the 25-year-old couldn’t even reach 200 runs, averaging under 25 and consistently falling short while facing the new ball.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) not happy with Prithvi Shaw’s fitness and performance
Meanwhile, a source within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) revealed that Prithvi Shaw was expelled from the squad because of his fitness and performance concerns. While his talent is well-recognized, the source emphasized that Shaw needs to focus on improving his fitness, discipline, and overall performance.
He added that the Indian batter’s fitness issue is visible to all, with his frame showing signs that it needs attention. The MCA hopes he will address these areas and make a strong comeback, as they believe he has the potential but must put in the necessary work to realize it.

He needs to work on his fitness, discipline, and performance: MCA
An MCA source was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times: “The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline, and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see. We hope he works on these issues and makes a strong comeback. We all know his talent. It is just about him putting in the hard yards.”
Earlier, Mumbai’s white-ball captain, Shreyas Iyer, said that they can’t babysit anyone, and every professional player needs to know what they should be doing. Iyer has noted that Shaw has to focus, sit back, and then figure it out himself, as no one can force him to do anything.
