Mitchell Swepson Aiming For Sri Lanka Test Spot

Mitchell Swepson is looking forward to make an impactful performance in BBL as the final chance to get a spot in the Australian Test squad against Sri Lanka in January 2025. Swepson, alongside Matt Kuhnemann, is eager to perform and secure a spot for the spin-friendly conditions in Galle.

Swepson Focus On BBL

Mitchell Swepson, Australia’s leg spinner is using the Big Bash League (BBL) to make his spot in Australia’s Test squad for the  Sri Lanka tour.

With Sheffield Shield games on hold until February, Swepson knows that strong performance in the BBL  could strengthen her selection chances.

Competing For A Spot

The upcoming tour to Sri Lanka has two Tests in Galle. Galle is a spinner-friendly ground. Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy are the first-choice options, still Swepson, Matt Kuhnemann and Adam Zampa are the leading contenders for a third spinner spot.

Swepson’s experience in Sri Lanka, that he played in 2022 gives him confidence on his selection.

Swepson’d Growth As A Bowler

Swepson believes that he has improved a lot since his last test appearance in 2022. He has taken 17 Shield wickets this summer and the 31-year-old spinner says that his experience has taught him how to adapt his bowling style based on team requirements.

He said that his focus is on accuracy and matching the control of finger spinners in subcontinent pitches.

Sophie Molineux Ruled Out Of NZ Tour Ahead Of Ashes Series

“Playing for Australia is always the goal I am striving for and while I’m not sure how many spinners they are going to take on that tour I would love to be a part of it,” Swepson told AAP ahead of the Heat’s title defence. “All the Shield games are done now [until February] and the BBL is all we have in front of us.

“I’m not sure they will pick blokes based on the BBL but bowling well in any format helps.”

Kuhnemann And The Competition

Matt Kuhnemann has also impressed with 18 wickets. Now he is playing for Tasmania. Kuhnemann values red-ball cricket as the foundation of his skills. Both the spinners are excited to prove themselves in the BBL as Australia finalized the squad for the January Test series.
