Shami Sidelined Due To Knee Injury

Mohammad Shami has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to swelling in right knee. Shami would not participate in the remaining two Test matches against Australia. The BCCI has confirmed the decision after Shami’s fitness.Due to bowling workloads in the recent tournaments his left knee got swollen. His recovery is closely monitored by the BCCI’s centre of excellence.

“Based on the current medical assessment, the BCCI medical team has determined that his knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. Consequently, he has not been deemed fit for consideration for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.”BCCI said in a statement.

The issue emerged during Shami’s participation in domestic cricket. He has bowled for 43 overs in Ranji trophy and 9 overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.Despite additional bowling sessions to regain match fitness, his left knee showed swelling, prompting caution.

Increased Workload

The BCCI has explained that Shami’s workload has significantly increased after his prolonged recovery from previous injury. Medical staff have extended his rest and controlled exposure to match intensity.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma had previously requested updates from the National Cricket Academy regarding Shami’s progress. The BCCI emphasized that Shami needs to build strength gradually, ensuring no setbacks in his fitness for future matches.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The test series between India and Australia is tied at 1-1. Both the teams have won single matches and the recently played Third Test in Brisbane was declared a draw. Shami’s presence was much needed for team India. As per the performance of the Indian bowlers was not upto the mark in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide. Jasprit Bumrah was single handedly holding the pace attack. Mohammad Siraj and Harshit Rana’s efforts were not aligned with Bumrah’s bowling prowess and India was struggling to take wickets of the Australian batters. And this led to the massive victory by Australia in the second Test.

India and Australia  are gearing up for the Boxing Day Test which is going to begin on 26 december. It’ll be interesting to see how Indian pacers are going to dominate Aussie batters and secure their spot in the WTC finals.
