Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced the appointment of Englishman Carl Hopkinson as their new fielding coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This strategic move comes as part of a broader restructuring of the coaching staff following a disappointing campaign in IPL 2024, where the franchise finished at the bottom of the points table.
New Coaching Staff Overview
Hopkinson, who has previously worked with various teams, including the England women’s team and several domestic franchises, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His expertise in enhancing fielding techniques and strategies is expected to significantly improve Mumbai’s performance in the field.
Nicknamed “Hoppo,” he served as the head fielding coach for the Three Lions during the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022, guiding the team to a runner-up finish, their first final appearance since 1998.
This personnel change also marked the departure of MI’s long-standing fielding coach, James Pamment, who left the franchise after seven remarkable years, during which he played a key role in securing two championship titles in 2019 and 2020.
