Pat Cummins takes revenge on Akash Deep, smashes him for a stunning six at Gabba

Australia captain Pat Cummins took perfect revenge from India’s Akash Deep during the fifth day of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Gabba, Brisbane. It happened when Australia were batting in its second innings.

Akash Deep bowled a short of a length ball to Pat Cummins which didn’t rise enough and hardly got to the batter’s shoulder. Cummins lined up and smashed the ball over midwicket for a magnificent six.

Earlier on Day 4, Akash Deep had struck a massive six to Pat Cummins over the midwicket fans during India’s first innings. Cummins bowled a length ball on the stumps and the batter just used all his power to hit the ball way over the fence.

Akash Deep contributed a vital 31 off 44 balls and helped India go past the follow-on score. He came in to bat at No. 11 but formed an excellent partnership of 47 runs for the last wicket with Jasprit Bumrah.

He was the last wicket to be dismissed for India in their first innings and the first wicket to fall on Day 5. He was stumped by Alex Carey off the bowling of Travis Head and it brought an end to India’s innings for 260.

Meanwhile, Australia started their innings after a rain interruption in an attempt to score some quick runs. However, some penetrative Indian bowling and some ultra-aggressive Australian batting approach led the hosts to be reduced to 89-7.

Australia were reduced to 33-5 at one stage by Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. Travis Head and Alex Carey formed a brief partnership before the former was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj.

Pat Cummins scores quick runs for Australia

However, Australian skipper Pat Cummins smashed a few lusty blows down the order. Cummins scored 22 off 10 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. He was removed by Jasprit Bumrah off a brilliant slower ball. Surprisingly, Cummins was also the highest run-scorer for India in this innings.

Jasprit Bumrah was again the pick of the bowlers for India with 3-18. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj complemented him well with two wickets each. Akash finished with 2-28 while Siraj picked up 2-35.

Akash was unlucky in the first innings having gone past the edges a numerous times but not having been able to pick up the wicket. He finished with 1-95 in 29.5 overs in the first innings.

Australia declare the innings

Australia announced the declaration with a score of 89-7 and gave India a target of 275 runs to win. It promises to be a thrilling encounter between these two sides but the rain needs to stay away.

India started its innings cautiously and were 8-0 before rain interrupted play again and forced the players to leave the field. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were at the crease with Starc and Cummins bowling with the new ball.
