Her recipe, shared on TikTok, is a twist on the classic chocolate chip or M&M cookie—and while it sticks to the basics, the result is anything but ordinary.

The process starts with melted butter and brown sugar, though many bakers might prefer a mix of white and brown sugar for added depth. Using a hand mixer, she blends the two until smooth, then incorporates the eggs for a creamy base.

In a separate bowl, Sabrina combines the dry ingredients, sifting the flour and baking soda like a pro. She gradually mixes the dry ingredients into the wet mixture before folding in the stars of the show: semi-sweet chocolate chips and festive red and green holiday M&M’s. Sabrina doesn’t measure the candies, instead estimating the amount, so feel free to add as many as your sweet tooth craves. For a fun twist, you can throw in mini M&M’s or even mix in a bit of green food coloring for some playful Grinch-inspired cookies.

• 1 cup butter, melted
• 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1-1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 3/4-1 cup red and green M&M’s

In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to blend the butter and both sugars until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and M&Ms, then refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.

Once chilled, scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Arrange the dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Showcasing songs from her 2023 “Fruitcake EP,” the 49-minute special featured a mix of celebrity cameos, sketch comedy, and a blend of Christmas classics and Carpenter’s holiday tracks, complete with her signature remixed, witty lyrics.

Executive producer Simone Spira opened up about the making of the special, telling The Fader, “We knew we wanted to build a vintage variety holiday special. We’d been watching a lot of the old-school variety shows. You have [‘The Dean Martin Christmas Show’], and when Frank Sinatra joined Dean Martin one year. Of course, there’s Cher’s [holiday episode from ‘The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour’].”

She added, “In our mind, we were envisioning that that would be Sabrina’s essence for a variety holiday show. And it turned out that was her exact vision as well.”

Spira later revealed that they “shot [this] in two days right before Sabrina went to the VMAs and [started her] ‘Short ‘n Sweet’ tour.”

“So we didn’t really have the luxury of time. What we shot is what’s in the special,” she said as executive producer Michael D. Ratner chimed in, “I think that part of the magic of the special is, is just how timely it is, the fact that she’s having such a moment, and it’s coming out around Christmas.”
