Steve Martin and Martin Short are giving their stamp of approval after Selena Gomez revealed her engagement to Benny Blanco.
“Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles,” Martin, 79, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, December 12, alongside a photo of Only Murders in the Building costars Short, 74, and Gomez, 32.
Gomez revealed on Wednesday, December 11, that she and Blanco, 36, were engaged after one year of dating.
“Forever begins now,” Gomez captioned an Instagram post alongside a photo of her engagement ring. Blanco took to the comments section to gush, “Hey wait … that’s my wife.”
Gomez’s longtime BFF Taylor Swift showed her support, commenting, “Yes, I will be the flower girl.”
Following the engagement news, Jared Jewelers expert and VP of Merchandising Ann Grimmett estimated to Us Weekly that the main diamond is six carats and worth $225,000. Grimmett noted that Gomez’s ring is extremely “rare, given less than five percent of diamonds are marquise.”
The diamond originated in the 18th century when King Louis XV of Paris asked his jeweler to design a diamond that was in the shape of his mistress’ lips. After Gomez posted the news, eagle-eyed fans quickly connected the shape of her diamond to her 2015 track “Good For You.”
“I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond,” she sang. “Could even make that Tiffany jealous.”
The pair collaborated together on multiple songs, including her 2015 tune “Same Old Love,” before they pursued a relationship in 2023. After sparking dating rumors, Gomez confirmed her romance with Blanco in 2023.
“He is my absolute everything in my heart. He [has] been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. The end. … He’s still better than anyone I’ve been with. Facts,” she wrote in an Instagram comment at the time, adding that they had been together for “six months.”

One month later, a source exclusively told Us that Gomez had “never been with anyone” like Blanco. “She loves how Benny treats her: he’s so kind and thoughtful,” the insider said in January. “It’s been a very long time since friends saw Selena this happy. She’s positively glowing.”
Months later, a separate source told Us that Gomez’s “friends and family couldn’t be [more excited],” for her and Blanco.
“She definitely sees this relationship going the distance,” the insider said in May. “They’ve talked about marriage and having children and are very much on the same page.”
