Australia’s Sophie Molineux has been ruled out of the Ashes series due to knee injury. Heather Graham will replace her in the series.

Australia’s Sophie Molineux has got a knee injury ahead of the Ashes series. The injury led the left-arm spinner to miss the series. This comes after Australia’s clean sweep against India. Molineux has featured in the final two matches.

Sophie has struggled with knee issues throughout the summer. However, she managed limited participation in the WBBL for Melbourne Renegades. Despite making a comeback for the India series, she pulled up sore after the final ODI in Perth. Heather Graham, a bowling all-rounder will replace her and will join the squad in New Zealand next week.

“Sophie Molineux has been withdrawn from the NZ Series due to knee soreness,” confirmed Cricket Australia in a statement. “Heather Graham will join the squad on Tuesday after completing her commitments in the Women’s National Cricket League.”

The three ODIs series against New Zealand will serve as Australia’s final preparation before the multi-format Ashes series next month. 

Alyssa Healy’s Comeback 

Captain Alyssa Healy is set to return for the New Zealand tour. Healy had been sidelined with her own knee injury and missed the IDI against India.Her comeback presents a dilemma for selectors. Georgia Voll who has showcased brilliant performance of 46*, 101,and 26 may now face difficulty. Healy is expected to open alongside Phoebe litchfield.

Heather Graham Inclusion 

Heather Graham has replaced Sophie Molineux. Her inclusion will add depth to Australia’s squad. She is well known for consistency and ability to contribute with both bat and ball. Graham’s selection is expected to provide balance to the team. 

This series will offer her a vital opportunity to take her claim in a prominent role.

Australia’s first ODI against New Zealand begins on Thursday, where Georgia Wareham is expected to fill Molineux’s role in the XI.
